Breakaway Carriers (BAC) was established in 2002 by Serpico Silvestri, a steel merchant in Nylstroom (Modimolle), after he recognized a gap in the inland transport of South Africa, and decided to focus his energies on this promising prospect.

Through the next couple of years Breakaway Carriers (BAC) worked with companies such as Westronic, Tiger Mills etc, transporting mainly maize and wood throughout South Africa. Emanating from his transport business, Serpico started doing broking for the transport industry of South Africa, thereby establishing strong ties and networks with major role players within the transport industry.

In 2004 Breakaway Carriers (BAC) recognized another promising opportunity for transport – foreign and neighboring countries. BAC acquired flatbed trucks for the trips abroad, thus establishing BAC as a competitive and successful transport force operating over boarders. All BAC trucks are installed with tracking devices, making sure that BAC as well as the client has surety of where the load is at any specific time. BAC also has very trustworthy subcontractors available.

With the entry into the foreign country transport network, Serpico made sure that he was hands-on with every trip and driver. He made sure to know everything about the route from loading to offloading, and thereby establishing a strong network of support with transport role players on every route. This is still to this day a very important principle that BAC adheres to. This in turn gives peace to the client as well as BAC that he will be capable of sorting out any difficulty that they come across.

• Fleet & Security

  Breakaway Carriers fleet consists of flat deck super links (with or without sides). The fleet is managed and maintained to the highest standards to ensure optimum running efficiency and reliability. All vehicles are fitted with state-of-the-art satellite tracking and drive cam driver monitoring facilities. Every driver is in possession of a cell phone and can be reached in South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe & Zambia.

  Breakaway Carriers uses sub-contracting only in rare cases where it is not possible to postpone the delivery of a load until one of BAC’s own vehicles is available. Our policy is to use only sub-contractors who:

  1. Provide tracking facilities.
  2. Have a track record with Breakaway Carriers.
  3. Provide drivers that can be contacted telephonically.
